Artwalk 2010

October 15th to November 4th
Celebrating local artists in the Yonge Lawrence Village Community

The Yonge Lawrence Village BIA presents the 6th annual Artwalk. Local businesses will host the works of local artists in mediums ranging from watercolours to photography. Artists’ works will be displayed in local merchants’ windows and establishments along Yonge Street between Lawrence Avenue and Yonge Boulevard.City Councillors will walk the Village and judge the windows for best overall creative impression and flair and determine the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.

INFORMATION FOR ARTISTS

The ARTWALK is an annual BIA sponsored event in conjunction with the North Toronto Group of Artists and other local artists. The goal of this event is to increase pedestrian traffic for merchants by promoting the talented and diverse local artists who reside in our community. This is the 6th year of the event!

How Does it Work?

Each artist (pre-approved by the BIA’s appointed organizer) is assigned to a participating merchant in Yonge Lawrence Village. Together they will select a piece(s) of original artwork that will be on display. Each artwork will be accompanied by the “official” Artwalk signage as provided by the BIA. Artists are encouraged to work along side with the merchant to develop a eye-catching display that incorporates their artwork that will be judged in the “Best in Show” display challenge.

What’s in it for the Artist?

Past participants have benefited by increased community awareness and some have even resulted in sales! Local businesses and artists make arrangements regarding sales or inquiries. Artists must discuss this upfront with merchants.

BIA Support

The BIA will support the Artwalk in October with over 12000 printed ad cards that will be distributed door-to-door and a full-size bus shelter poster located at Cranbrooke Ave & Yonge St. will feature the event. The Artwalk will also be promoted on the YLVBIA website as well as the North Toronto Group of Artists website. Local media will be contacted and listings will be submitted to newspapers, magazines, online and radio.

How Do I Get Involved?

Interested artists must reside in the Yonge Lawrence area and show original artwork only. Photographers and sculpturers are also welcomed. Artists are contacted during the month of August and confirmed early September. Please note that there is a current waitlist for this event. Interested artists must submit jpeg artwork samples or website for consideration.
